General Questions

What are the system requirements?

Our courses are designed to work well on any device, so you can study using your PC, tablet or mobile phone.

Can I study offline? I don’t have good internet access.

We have designed our courses to work well even in situations when you have limited internet access. We have achieved this by not including videos, audio, large documents, etc which would normally demand a lot of bandwidth. If you need to study offline, you can download the eNotes in PDF or ePub format*. These notes contain all the text from the lessons but do not include the interactive questions.

*ePub is an e-book file format with the extension .epub that can be downloaded and read on devices like smartphones, tablets, computers, or e-readers.

Will I receive a CPE certificate?

If you pass the required final exam(s) within one year of enrolling on the instructor-supported course or self-study module, with a minimum score of 70%, you will be issued with a Certificate of Course Completion. Our online instructor-supported courses and self-study modules generally meet the requirements for professional education training credits (PD, CPD, CPE) from institutes around the world. If in any doubt, please check with your profession institution.

Can I use my IASeminars Learning Passport for an online course?

Yes, online courses may be taken on your passport, (max 1 concurrent course at any given time), and multiple online courses may be taken consecutively with the IASeminars Learning Passport.

IPSAS Essentials (Instructor-supported) - 9-module package

How long does the IPSAS Essentials instructor-supported course take to complete?

The IPSAS Essentials course consists of 9 modules. On average, most modules are expected to take between 1 and 3 hours to complete, although it is natural that some will take longer than others. So, completing the entire course will require 30 hours of work. We suggest that you attempt to complete two modules per week to finish the course in 5 weeks. Note that although you have a year to complete your course, support from an instructor is only available during the first 5 weeks.

How long will I have access to the course / module for?

You will have access to the final exam in your module(s) for 1 year from the date of registration. After the one-year cut-off time, you won’t be able to take the exam and receive a certificate, but you will continue to have full access to the rest of the course / module, which includes lessons, case studies and practice quiz questions. You will not have access to subsequent updates made to later versions of the course. We reserve the right to close a course if it has not been accessed for over a year.

Do I have to start at the beginning of the month? I don’t have time until later in the month.

We can offer you a couple of options in this scenario. You could start this course 1 week late and catch up with the rest of the course participants as the course progresses. Please bear in mind that we won’t be able to extend the instructor support for you, so you will only have 4 weeks left to interact with your tutor. Alternatively, you could enrol on the subsequent course and if you’re keen to get started we can give you early access to the course materials. This means you’ll have a head-start when the course officially starts and you won’t miss out on instructor support.

I’m worried that I won’t be able to finish the IPSAS Essentials instructor-supported course within the designated 5 weeks. Can you give me an extension if I need it?

You will get the most from the course if you keep up with the pace and complete all nine modules that make up the course in five weeks. However, we do recognise it's sometimes difficult to meet deadlines: you may be busy at work, have family commitments, or the time needed is simply greater than estimated. Once the five-week period with the instructor has passed, you will continue to have access to the 9 modules to enable you to complete them at your own pace. You will have up to a year, if necessary, to pass the exams on each module and gain your certificates.

I’m enrolled on the instructor-supported IPSAS Essentials course. What contact will I have with the instructor?

You can use the “Ask the instructor” discussion forum on your course to contact your tutor who will aim to respond to your question within 2 working days. The discussion forum also provides opportunities to meet your class-mates virtually and to discuss topics with them.

Will I need to take any exams on the instructor-supported IPSAS Essentials course?

This course consists of 9 modules. At the end of each module, you need to pass the final quiz with a minimum score of 70% to get a Certificate of Course Completion for that module. At the end of the course, you will have collected nine certificates demonstrating your expertise in each of the topics covered by the course.

IPSAS Modules (Self-study)

I would like to enrol on a self-study module. How soon after payment of the course fee can I start studying?

Learners on self-study modules will receive an email with their login instructions within 48 hours of payment of the course fee.

How long does a self-study module take to complete?

It depends on the topic, but most modules will take about 1 or 3 hours to complete. This doesn't need to be in one session – you can access your module and restart where you left off at any time.

How long will I have access to the self-study module for?

You will have access to the final exam in your module(s) for 1 year from the date of registration. After the one-year cut-off time, you won’t be able to take the exam and receive a certificate, but you will continue to have full access to the rest of the course / module, which includes lessons, case studies and practice quiz questions. You will not have access to subsequent updates made to later versions of the course. We reserve the right to close a course if it has not been accessed for over a year.

I’m enrolled on a self-study module but, due to work commitments, I may not be able to pass the final exam before the one-year cut off date. Can I get an extension?

Regrettably, this is not possible. The final exam will become unavailable after 1 year of enrolling on the course / module. You will need to re-register to be able to take the exam and obtain a certificate.

Can you tell me more about the final exam on my self-study module? How many attempts will I have?

In order to receive a Certificate of Course Completion at the end of your self-study module, you will need to pass a final quiz with a minimum score of 70%. One re-take is permitted if you don't achieve the pass mark the first time. Each module also has a practice quiz which you can take as many times as you like to prepare you for the final quiz.
