Claire Dean is an instructor and consultant specialising in IFRS, UK GAAP and finance training. After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant Claire moved into training, delivering exam based courses for various financial qualifications and providing IFRS training to Ernst & Young's qualified staff. Claire then joined Ernst & Young’s Financial Reporting Advisory team in London as a Senior Manager. In this role she provided technical advice in all aspects of UK GAAP and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) to clients of E&Y, including working on IFRS conversions. Aside from being an experienced IFRS instructor, Claire also delivers financial training to the Analysts at many of the large investment banks across the world, runs finance courses for non financial managers and teaches the professional chartered accountancy examinations. A member of the ICAEW herself, Claire has a 1st class Honours degree in Accounting and Finance.
- John Cochrane (Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton)
John Cochrane is a Canadian chartered accountant with 34 years experience in public accounting and consulting. He is a partner at Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton in Montreal, Quebec, Canada where he and his firm provide accounting and advisory services to a large number of companies, many of whom are mining exploration companies. Since 2008, he has acted as his firm’s IFRS implementation champion and in this role he has trained and supported a number of clients during their transition. Further, he has overseen the preparation of a set of IFRS-compliant illustrative financial statements for mining exploration companies, and has organized and presented at three annual training sessions for mining exploration companies. In the last year he has also acted in a support and quality review capacity with respect to the first IFRS-compliant quarterly and annual financial statements prepared by the firm’s numerous mining and other clients. John is a member of a Grant Thornton international review team formed to review and comment on discussion papers and exposure drafts related to extractive industries, and a member of the Mining Industry Task Force on IFRS organized jointly by the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants and the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada. The latter task force has published a number of points of view regarding the application of IFRS to the mining industry.
