Assessment: The ICAEW IFRS Certificate is self-taught, and is assessed online in an ‘open book’ environment where the official IASB standards and other suitable publications can be used. Candidates will have a time limit of 2 hours to complete the online assessment, which comprises 60 multiple-choice test questions. The pass mark is 70%, and each assessment is different since it draws from a bank of many hundreds of test questions, of which 60 are selected at random. Candidates can take the assessment at any time - and as often as they wish - during their 12 month registration period.

The assessment is available through any internet connection, and is accessed using a unique code that is provided to each candidate when they register. Upon successful completion of the online assessment, candidates will be able to immediately download and print off a personalised ICAEW certificate which demonstrates their professional achievement in IFRS knowledge.


Preparation and Study: The exact time required to prepare for and pass the ICAEW IFRS Certificate is dependent on the candidate’s prior knowledge and experience of IFRS, but is estimated at the equivalent of 70 hours of full time study on average.

This technical preparation can be done using the official ICAEW self-study materials that are provided upon registration, and / or by attending an IASeminars live IFRS training course, which we offer in several formats lasting from 1 to 8 days. Candidates are also free to prepare for the ICAEW IFRS Certificate in any other manner that they deem appropriate.

To supplement a candidate's basic preparation for the ICAEW IFRS Certificate, IASeminars also offers an optional one-day Exam Preparation and Review Course, during which one of our expert IFRS instructors will review the content of the ICAEW IFRS Certificate programme in detail, giving explanations and personal assistance as well as practical tips and advice on exam technique. Candidates can even take the online assessment later that same day, and leave with their ICAEW IFRS Certificate!

For those candidates opting to prepare for the ICAEW IFRS Certificate by attending an IASeminars live IFRS training course, they can often choose to stay on for a further day in order to take the Review Course and to complete the online assessment itself.

The overall study materials were great - they covered the standards well and prepared you to pass the exam.
